Prescription Yasmin Drug Information
Yasmin Uses?
Yasmin is made up of both estrogen and progestin. When used correctly, the medication effectively prevents pregnancy. Doctors also prescribe it to treat menopause or to regulate a menstrual cycle, as well as other conditions.
Yasmin Directions?
Yasmin Side Effects?
SIDE EFFECTS, which may go away during treatment, include nausea, vomiting, bleeding between menstrual periods, breast tenderness, or weight change. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience persistent or recurrent abnormal vaginal bleeding, a missed menstrual period, dizziness or fainting, swelling of fingers or ankles, headache, or difficulty wearing contact lenses. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience sharp or crushing chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, sudden severe headache, pain in the groin or calf, yellow skin or eyes, lumps in the breast, changes in vision, severe depression, numbness of an arm or leg, or severe stomach pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Yasmin Warnings?
Smoking while using Yasmin increases your risk of stroke, a heart attack, blood clots, high blood pressure, or other diseases of the heart and blood vessels. If you have to take antibiotics or anticonvulsants while on Yasmin, use a back up form of birth control until your next period. These medications cause birth control pills to be less effective in preventing pregnancy. If you wear contact lenses and feel that you are developing additional vision problems, talk to your eye doctor. It's possible to develop darker patches on the facial skin. This condition is worse when exposed to the sun, so limit your sun exposure and sunlamp time. Sexually transmitted diseases can still be passed while using birth control pills. If you suspect that you may be pregnant, you should immediately stop taking Yasmin and contact your doctor. If you are breast-feeding, talk to your doctor about using this medication. It is passed in breast milk.
Yasmin Drug Interactions?
Taking Yasmin can increase your potassium levels. Because of this, you should not combine Yasmin with an ACE inhibitor; a potassium supplement; an angiotensin II receptor antagonist; a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID); potassium-sparing diuretic; or heparin. Your doctor can tell you if Yasmin is safe for you.
Yasmin Missed Dose?
If you miss one yellow Yasmin pill, you should take it when you realize you've missed it. Your next dose should be taken at the regular time. You may take more than one dose in a day this way. As an extra precaution, you may want to use backup birth control options until you've taken seven doses in a row again.
If you miss two yellow Yasmin pills in week one or week two, you should take both as soon as you realize the mistake. If it's almost time for your next pill, you can take three at once. You have a higher likelihood of ovulating in this case, so you should use a backup birth control option for seven days.
If you miss three Yasmin pills, or miss two yellow pills in week three, stop using your current package and throw it away. Day 1 starters should start a new Yasmin package right away. Sunday starters should continue using the current package until Sunday, then begin using the new package. Use a backup birth control option for seven day. You will not have a period this month. If you don't have one the following month, you may be pregnant and should take a pregnancy test before beginning a new package of pills.
Yasmin Storage?
Keep Yasmin out of sunlight and away from moisture. Make sure the medication is out of reach of children.
Anything Else I Should Know About Yasmin?
The hormones progesterone and ethinyl estradiol are combined in Triphasil pills. The two female hormones work in conception and ovulations. Taking this prescription prevents ovulation and therefore prevents pregnancy.
