Unlike other weight-loss drugs that act in the brain or central nervous system to suppress appetite or to speed up metabolism, XENICAL works in your digestive system to block fat from being digested.
Enzymes in your digestive system, called lipases, help digest (or break down) fat. Xenical attaches to the lipases and blocks them from breaking down some of the fat you have eaten.
The undigested fat can't be absorbed and is eliminated in your bowel movements. By working this way, Xenical helps block about one-third of the fat in the foods you eat from being absorbed by your body.

Xenical Directions?
Your Xenical should be taken by mouth, three times a day with plenty of liquids. It needs to be taken within an hour of each main meal of the day. If you want to miss a meal, or eat a meal that is without fat, you can also miss that dose of Xenical.
While taking Xenical, your regular diet also needs to be closely regulated. They need to be low in fat, each meal having no more than 30% of its calories coming from fat. Plan your day's meals ahead of time, making sure to evenly divide your daily intake of fat, protein, and carbohydrates.
Each dose is approximately 120-mg. No evidence exists which shows that taking any more than that each dose will help you lose more weight. So you should avoid taking higher doses.

You should take a multivitamin once a day while on Xenical. Because this medication keeps your body from absorbing certain essential vitamins. This vitamin should not be taken at the same time as Xenical you should take about 2 hours apart.
Xenical is unlike other prescription medicines that are based on amphetamine-style appetite suppressants; those types of medications typically have many side effects.
