Prescription Prilosec Drug Information
Prilosec Uses?
Prilosec is beneficial in the treatment of ulcers of the stomach and intestines, erosive esophagitis, and other problems such as Zollinger-Ellis syndrome that are caused by too much stomach acid.
Prilosec Directions?
This medication works best if taken before eating. Antacids may be taken with this medication. The capsules are sustained-released and must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew them or the long action may be destroyed and the chance of side effects increased.
Prilosec Side Effects?
This medication may cause diarrhea, constipation, stomach ache, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache, or dizziness the first few days as your body adjusts to it. If these effects persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Unlikely but tell your doctor if you develop back or joint pain, nervousness, sleep disturbances, cough, chest pain, unusual thirst, change in amount of urine or vision changes. This medication may rarely cause loss of hair, ringing in the ears, swelling of the stomach or fatigue. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Prilosec Warnings?
If you want to take Prilosec, your doctor must be familiar with all other prescriptions and over the counter products that you use. This includes phenytoin (Dilantin), diazepam (Valium), ketoconazole, ampicillin, warfarin (Coumadin), and iron. Do not stop or start any medications without letting your doctor know. If you have had a reaction to Omeprazole/Lansoprazole, you may have an allergic reaction to Prilosec.
Prilosec Drug Interactions?
It's important that your physician is familiar with all other medications you use, including cilostazol, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), iron supplements, ampicillin, hydantoins (e.g., phenytoin), diazepam, azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), and sucralfate. Never begin a new medication or stop taking an existing one without your doctor's knowledge.
Prilosec Missed Dose?
Prilosec should only be taken according to a regular dosing schedule. If you forget a treatment, take it as soon as you remember, then return to your normal routine. Be careful not double your dose of Prilosec.
Prilosec Storage?
Store Prilosec at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (20 to 30 degrees C) and not in areas that are or moist or have a lot of sunlight. Keep it tightly closed and away from children.
Anything Else I Should Know About Prilosec?
If your stomach produces too much acid, Prilosec can help reduce the amount it makes. Overproduction of stomach acid can cause problems such as ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and heartburn, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
