Exposure to sunlight may aggravate this condition, so avoid extended exposure to sun or sun lamps and wear sunscreen and protective clothing. It may take a long time to become pregnant after stopping birth control pills. Do not smoke cigarettes while taking the pill. This medication causes a small increase in the likelihood of blood clots, strokes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, vision problems, and gallbladder disease, liver tumors. Examples include dapsone, nevirapine, griseofulvin, many antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfas, cephalosporins), modafinil, many seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, chloramphenicol, carbamazepine), rifamycins (e.g., rifampin), nelfinavir, ritonavir, St John's wort, troglitazone. You should consider using an alternate form of birth control while you are using any of these medications. Tell your doctor if you are using benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, chlordiazepoxide), prednisone-like drugs, thyroid hormone drugs, beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol), certain antidepressants (e.g., tricyclics), "blood thinners" (anticoagulants such as warfarin), and insulin. These drugs can cause altered lab results, especially on thyroid tests, so make sure the lab personnel know that you use this medication. Do not stop or start taking medications unless your doctor is aware of it.
