The directions for Nexium should be carefully followed. Take each dose an hour before your meal. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or broken. Those who have a hard time swallowing pills can open the capsule and combine the contents with a spoonful of applesauce. Make sure to swallow the applesauce all at once and without chewing. Any remaining applesauce mixture should be discarded. If your physician has also prescribed antacids for you, you may take them with Nexium. |

Nexium users report occasional mild side effects when you just begin taking the medication. You may experience diarrhea, constipation, headache, or coughing. You can talk to your doctor if any of these effects become bothersome. Serious side effects require immediate medical attention and may include severe pain in the chest, throat, or stomach, or coffee-ground vomit. If you feel that you are having an allergic reaction to Nexium, you should also get medical attention. These symptoms include difficulty breathing, itching, swelling, or dizziness. |
